Research On My Chosen Idea
I have chosen to make a double page magazine spread on the film 'Nowhere Boy'. The reason I have chosen this is because it is a film I enjoy but also I will enjoy writing about it.The film it's self is based on the early life of music legend John Lennon. The film was made in 2009 and directed by Sam Taylor- Johnson. She has directed short films, these include, Love You More (2008), Destricted (2006) and Misfit (1996). Taylor- Johnson has won 5 BAFTA awards and nominated for 7. The main actors in the film are Aaron Johnson (John Lennon), Kristen Scott Thomas (Aunt Mimi), Anne- Marie Duff (Julia), Thomas Brodie- Sangster (Paul) and David Threlfall (Uncle George). The film is set in the late 1950's Liverpool where John Lennon is attending Quarry Bank High School; here he is rebellious and is very charming with the girls. The films shows a lot about the culture at that time and how the style is changing from Swing and Jazz to Rock 'n' Roll. The film has won 9 BAFTA awards and has been nominated 17 times. The was a huge hit.
Nowhere Boy Purpose and Tone
Understanding the link between Audience, Purpose and Tone.
The Audience
The audience for my double page feature spread is going to be aimed towards a younger audience. However although the actors in the film are more well known to the younger generation, the story of the film is more relatable to an older audience as they are more likely to have an interest in the storyline.
The Purpose
The purpose for my double page feature spread is to inform the audience of what the film 'Nowhere Boy' is about. Within the article the text being used will also help persuade the audience to want to watch the film as it is more of a review than anything else. The layout
The Tone
The tone of the text is going to be formal but may also have a slight input of informal language because of the age of the audience it is aimed at.

Nowhere Boy Review
Magazine Double Page Spread: Nowhere Boy Review
In this assignment we had to create a Magazine Double Page Spread. We had to split it into two lessons. In our lesson with Louise we used this lesson to write the article and in Graphics we had to design the layout. To decide what we wanted to write the magazine spread about, we had to create a mind map. It had sections to help us decide these were, Films, music, TV, Sports and a couple more. This was used a starting point, when we chose our subject we wanted to write about, I chose the film Nowhere Boy, we had to collect images to make it stand out and look like an article. Within the article I wrote a review on the film. I included what the film was about, the actors and characters and also what I thought about the film. We had to use language techniques that make an article what they are for example we had to include a Stand First as well as a title, images and columns.
Nowhere Boy - Tim Marrs Design
This is my design for my double page magazine spread that I have based around the film 'Nowhere Boy. For the assignment we had we all had to collect images that related to the subject we were doing. Once we had gotten these images we put them onto Photoshop were here we selected parts of the image we wanted to change. We had to piece the images together to make a Tim Marrs like style image.

First Draft: Photoshop Work for Double Page Spread
In Graphics our first piece of work we had to do was based around the art work done by Tim Marrs. We had to select 7 pictures that relate to the subject of our double age magazine spread, I had chosen one of my favorite films called 'Nowhere Boy'. The image I chose is of the main character. We had to put the image onto Photoshop. Once the picture was the size we wanted, we had to select the 'quick selection' tool, this helped us to select part of the image we wanted and got rid of the background. Once we had finished this we then had to change the colour of the image, i chose to make it black and white because the actor is meant to be portraying an older character.
The work I did was not a lot because we only had an hour to work on it and using the 'quick selection' tool was tricky to use.

Tim Marrs
This piece of art by Tim Marrs uses a lot of different
vibrant colours. Bright colours such as orange, yellow and red help the dark
colours and silhouette’s stand out to get a message across to the audience.
Another thing about the art work that really stands out is the layout; the images
are placed in a way that lets the audience know that he is trying to tell us
something. When looking at the image for the first time, the first thing you
notice is the silhouette of a man holding a gun. This is symbolic because it
shows danger and because it is so dark compared to everything else, helps it
stand out for people to take notice in.
