Key Terminology in a Magazine Double Page Spread

Headline = A headline is used to draw the audience in. It tells the audience what the article is about.

Body Text = The main text in the article.

Pull Quote = A main quote from the article that is used to draw the reader in.

Subhead = Smaller text under the headline. Shows what the article includes and titles a column/paragraph.

Alleys = The space between the columns of an article.

Caption = A small bit of text that explains a picture.

Stand First = A small selection of text written under the main headline that contains information about what is going to be involved within the article.

kicker = A sentence at the beginning of an article that starts the articles story off.
