First Draft: Photoshop Work for Double Page Spread

In Graphics our first piece of work we had to do was based around the art work done by Tim Marrs. We had to select 7 pictures that relate to the subject of our double age magazine spread, I had chosen one of my favorite films called 'Nowhere Boy'. The image I chose is of the main character. We had to put the image onto Photoshop. Once the picture was the size we wanted, we had to select the 'quick selection' tool, this helped us to select part of the image we wanted and got rid of the background. Once we had finished this we then had to change the colour of the image, i chose to make it black and white because the actor is meant to be portraying an older character.

The work I did was not a lot because we only had an hour to work on it and using the 'quick selection' tool was tricky to use.

Tim Marrs

This piece of art by Tim Marrs uses a lot of different vibrant colours. Bright colours such as orange, yellow and red help the dark colours and silhouette’s stand out to get a message across to the audience. Another thing about the art work that really stands out is the layout; the images are placed in a way that lets the audience know that he is trying to tell us something. When looking at the image for the first time, the first thing you notice is the silhouette of a man holding a gun. This is symbolic because it shows danger and because it is so dark compared to everything else, helps it stand out for people to take notice in.

Magazine spread ideas

Film
This is the category I am most likely to chose to write a double page magazine spread about, however, it is going to be difficult to collect my own images.
 My initial ideas:

  • Nowhere Boy
  • 21 Jump Street
Out of the two I am going to choose 'Nowhere Boy'.

Pros:
  • The film is based around Johns Lennon's earlier life.
  • The main actor, Aaron Johnson is one of my favourite actors and he is well known by many.
  • It is a good film to watch.
Cons:
  • Can not gather my own images/ sources.

Music
I wrote down two of my favourite bands and one of my favourite artists.
My initial ideas:
  • The Beatles
  • Mumford & Sons
  • Jake Bugg
Out of the three ideas, I am going to choose Jake Bugg.

Pros:
  • One of my favourite artists
  • Writes all of his own songs
  • I know a lot of information about him
Cons:
  • Can not gather my own images/ sources.

TV
Although I do not particularly watch television, the only programmes I have listed are the ones I enjoyed.
My initial ideas:
  • Friends
  • Russel Howard's Good News
Out of the two I have chosen, the one I am more likely to pick out of the two is Friends. This is because  I have watched it more than the other program but also because it is a popular program.

Pros:
  • It is a very well known program to many
  • There is a lot to write about
  • I could write about what the actors/ actresses are doing now since Friends had finished.
Cons:
  • Can not gather my own images/ sources.

Sports
I do not watch much sports so I only had one idea.
My initial ideas:
  • Olympics
Pros:
  • It is a world wide event
  • Many sports can be involved
  • There is a lot to write about
Cons:
  • Can not collect my own images/ sources
  • I do not know a lot about it
